Sabbath Meditation - July 31st, 2021

As we celebrate the Sabbath, we should remember the day on which we celebrate it. Since creation, the Sabbath day was always at the end of the week. Or to say it another way, Sabbath was celebrated at the death of the week.

This fits because that Old World was dominated by death and sin, and only had the promise of hope.

Now we celebrate Sabbath on the first day of the week. Or to put it another way, we celebrate at the birth of the week.

Jesus put to death the Old World and started the New World when you rose up out of the grave. AND, he did this on the first day of the week. So, because He rose at the birth of the week, we celebrate the newness and renewal of the New World.

Celebrating a Sabbath day was never changed, but at the resurrection our world was changed. It is now dominated by life. Death was put to death. Just like all of us, at one time we were dominated by sin and death, but now God has put death to death in our own lives. This new birth is the reason we celebrate and feast.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

2 Corinthians 5:17
